What is PCI DSS?

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a global security framework that defines how organizations must protect cardholder data. Certification covers physical data center access controls, visitor procedures, equipment safeguards, and security policies — the infrastructure layer your VPS runs on.

Physical Access Controls

Restricted entry to server halls using keycards, biometrics, and logged visitor access — requirement 9.

Security Policies

Security Policies

Documented information security policies, risk assessments, and staff awareness programs — requirements 12.1 and 12.2.

PCI DSS VPS Hosting — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our certified infrastructure, what is covered, and how to deploy.

PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) is a set of security requirements established by major card networks to protect cardholder data. It covers controls across physical security, access management, network security, and operational procedures. Businesses that accept, process, store, or transmit card data must comply.

Tonic VPS is certified for Requirement 9 (physical access to system components) and Requirements 12.1, 12.2, 12.4–12.10 (security policies and procedures). Certification covers physical access controls, visitor management, surveillance, and security policy management — conducted by Comsec Consulting.

No. Our certification covers the physical infrastructure layer only. Hosting on our certified infrastructure removes the physical-layer findings from your scope, but you remain responsible for your own applications, networks, software stack, and cardholder data environment. Full PCI DSS compliance requires addressing all 12 requirement areas.

You are responsible for everything above the physical layer: application security, firewall configuration, OS hardening, encryption of cardholder data, access control policies, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and audit logging. Using a certified data center satisfies the physical access components of Requirement 9 and relevant Requirement 12 policies as they apply to the facility.

High Bandwidth VPS plans (from €10.97/mo) are available in all 5 PCI DSS certified locations. KVM VPS plans are available in select certified locations. Simply choose a certified location during checkout — no additional fee or configuration required.

Select a High Bandwidth VPS plan and pick one of the 5 certified locations (Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Washington D.C., Singapore, or London) at checkout. The PCI DSS certification applies automatically — no extra setup step needed. Your VPS will be provisioned in the certified facility immediately after payment.
